Great message to spread, but it’s not so great when the song is stuck in your head for hours.

Last Friday we took the kid (now a 6 year old big kid) to Disneyland for his birthday. HE LOVED IT. When we got there he was a little bummed because there was no cotton candy to be found. But after mommy talked some sense into him (aka we’ll leave if you don’t stop pouting) he was good to go.

The first ride was the Monorail – it’s not really a ride but it was a good warm up to our afternoon. After that enjoyed riding Autopia, Finding Nemo Submarie Adventure, ‘it’s a small world”, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds. Space Mountain was on the list of things to ride, but it was down for maintenance!

We were there for about 7 hours and didn’t do too much, but the boy had so much fun (as soon as I get my film developed I’ll share some pictures…yes I said film…).

A side note about the Matterhorn. I LOVE roller coasters and so does the boyfriend. Although the trip was for the boy I was determined to get on a ride that was slightly scary. So we rode the Matterhorn. At night. I had to kind of make the boy get on. He was excited to get in line, but once we started getting closer to the ride he got scared. I told him he would love it and started pointing out the other kids his height/age that were getting off of the ride and that seemed made him feel better. After we got off the roller coaster he was a ball of excitement and smiles.

Tough love equals smiles…at Disneyland.

I have this incredible itch. It nags me as I work. I grinds at me as I lay dreaming. It pummels me (yeah, a little dramatic but I like dramatic words) while I sit on the couch watching tv. It’s not your regular itch that you’d visit the doctor (perhaps with shame and remorse in your heart) but it’s the itch to do more.

As I was walking from our neighborhood street fair today I got to thinking about what I’ve done in the time between when I graduated from college and my walk home. Here are a few things I realized: 1) I graduated from college 7 years ago; 2) Crap I graduated from college 7 years ago!; 3) I’ve had 7 different jobs at 4 different companies since I graduated from college; 4) I still have no idea what I want to be when I grow up; 5) Just because I’m 30 doesn’t mean I’m grown up; 6) I haven’t taken a picture in almost a year.

In that same walk I had these additional realizations: 1) I’m so happy I’m not an undergrad anymore (but I miss walking to the dining hall in my pj’s); 2) I’m way more awesome then I was 7 years ago; 3) I kicked (and am still kicking) butt in all of the jobs I’ve had (and still have); 4) I’m ok not knowing what I want to be when I grow up; 5) Every so often I feel like a grown up like when I’m writing a check to the IRS; 6) I should take a picture or two sometime soon.

Oh and I realized I like when the sun comes out in the Summer. As opposed to the cloudy August the Bay Area has had so far. WTH.
